Table tennis has a century of World Championships and almost forty years of Olympics behind it. Along the way it has piled up some remarkable records: champions who seemed unbeatable, points that lasted hours, an Olympian who debuted at 12 and another still playing past 60.
This page collects the best-known, verifiable table tennis records, grouped by type.
Title records

Ma Long is the sport's Olympic record holder: singles gold in 2016 and 2020 plus four team golds. He is also one of the players who completed the "Grand Slam" (Olympic, World Championship and World Cup singles titles), explained in greatest table tennis players.
At the World Championships, the singles records still belong to the European era. Angelica Rozeanu won six in a row, and Hungary's Mária Mednyánszky five in a row (1926 to 1931). Among men, nobody has topped Viktor Barna's five. In the modern era, Zhuang Zedong, Wang Liqin and Ma Long reached three each.

China's streak in the men's World Team Championships started in 2001 and reached 12 straight titles with the win in London in 2026. The last team to beat China in a men's final was Sweden, in 2000. Olympic numbers are broken down in table tennis at the Olympics.
The longest point in history
At the 1936 World Championships in Prague, Poland's Alojzy (Alex) Ehrlich and Romania's Farkas Paneth played a single point that lasted more than two hours. Both were extremely patient defenders and neither would risk attacking. Accounts from the time say even the umpire had to be replaced during the match.
Matches like that pushed the ITTF to introduce time limits. The idea evolved into today's expedite rule, which kicks in when a game goes past 10 minutes: from then on, if the receiver makes 13 returns in a point, the receiver wins it.
The Guinness longest rally
Outside official competition, the longest rally record is kept by Guinness World Records. In January 2025, Guinness recognized a rally by Swedish players Emil Ohlsson and Fredrik Nilsson, who kept the ball in play for 13 hours, 37 minutes and 6 seconds in Malmö in July 2024. Before them, other pairs had already passed eight and then eleven hours.
