Updated on · 6 min read

RealTT Story mode has 30 rivals in three circuits (Amateur, Pro and Elite), faced one by one. Each match costs 1 energy, and every win gives a drop: one of the rival's own rubbers or blade, at a random tier. Beat the same rival 15 times and you pick one of their items at World Tour tier or better.

Story mode is RealTT's campaign: a journey against 30 rivals, each with their own style, racket and venue. It starts in Uncle Zé's garage and ends at the Neon Arena final. Along the way, it is where you collect the rubbers and blades that build your racket.

This guide explains how Story mode works and gives tips for getting past the toughest rivals in this table tennis game.

How Story mode works

On the home screen, the PLAY button takes you straight to your next Story rival. The Story screen shows the circuit as a map, rival by rival.

  • 30 rivals in 3 circuits: the Amateur Circuit, the Pro Circuit and the Elite Circuit, with 10 rivals each. The tenth rival of each circuit is the BOSS.
  • One at a time: to unlock a rival, you have to beat the one before.
  • Format: the first four rivals are decided in one game to 11. From the fifth on, it is best of 3 games to 11.
  • Energy: each Story match costs 1 energy. Energy goes up to 5 and refills by itself, 1 per hour. Ranked, Training and matches with friends use no energy. More in the energy help page.
  • Power: before the match you see YOUR POWER against RIVAL POWER, the combined strength of each player's racket.

The three circuits

CircuitRivalsWhat to expect
Amateur CircuitUncle Zé, Lia, Dona Marta, Teo, Chef Bento, Nina, Prof. Arthur, Rafa, Bia, Coach DudaGarages, gyms and Sunday leagues. The first rivals miss more, so you learn while you play
Pro CircuitMika, Gui Penhold, Sofi La Muralla, Takumi, Hanna, Marcos Short, Yuri, Carla, Dante, Madame LiSpin, tactics and tournament nerves. Long pips, short pips and lots of sidespin show up
Elite CircuitIvan, Nova, Rio, Sven, Aiko, El Matador, Petra, Dmitri, Mei the Dragon, KenjiThe best on the planet. For the last six rivals, the bounce marker goes away

Difficulty climbs gradually across all 30 rivals. Each one also has their own traits: Dona Marta has a weak backhand, Teo cracks under pressure, Chef Bento stays calm at the end of a game.

Venues change the ball

Some rivals play in venues with different physics, and the game tells you before the match. In Uncle Zé's garage, the old wooden table has a lower bounce. On the beach and the rooftop there is a crosswind. At the mountain lodge the thin air makes the ball faster, and on the orbital station gravity is low and the ball floats. Find out why in RealTT physics.

Drops: what you win

Every rival plays with the rubbers and blade they can drop. Every win gives one drop: one of those items, at a tier rolled on the spot. The tier sets how strong the item is. The further you get in the Story, the better your odds of a high tier:

World Tour1%2.5%5%

Each rival's odds are under Chances on their screen. Besides the drop:

  • First win: you get the rival's signature piece, an accessory for your player, like Uncle Zé's garage towel.
  • Rival Prize: after 15 wins over the same rival, you pick one of their items at World Tour tier or better.
  • Farming: against a rival you have already beaten, games go to 7 points, so collecting drops is quicker.

Tips for every rival style

Every rival has a play style, and the game itself gives a tip for each one. To learn how these styles work at a real table, read about table tennis playing styles.

Stuck on a rival?

Losing is part of it. If you lose to the same rival twice in a row, they start making a few more mistakes, and the game says so on court ("You know their game now"). The help grows up to your fourth loss and resets when you win.

Other ways through:

  1. Go back to a rival you have beaten and farm drops to improve your racket. Compare your power with theirs.
  2. Practice the shot you are missing in Rally practice, choosing the spin that rival uses.
  3. Change your backhand rubber: against a chopper, a smooth (inverted) rubber helps you lift backspin.
